A warm, stress-free party drink made with simple pantry staples. This slow-cooked sangria blends apple cider, dry white wine, and aromatic spices for a comforting, crowd-pleasing beverage.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 64 oz high-quality 100% pure apple cider
  • 750 ml dry white wine (such as Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio)
  • 3 large Royal Gala apples, cored and sliced thinly
  • 1 medium orange, sliced into rounds
  • 3–4 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise pods
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (optional, to taste)
  • 1/2 cup brandied cherries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the apples and orange thoroughly. Slice the apples into thin wedges (skin on) and remove cores. Slice the orange into rounds.
  2. Place the sliced apples and orange rounds into a 4-6 quart slow cooker.
  3. Pour in the apple cider and dry white wine. Add brown sugar if using, and stir gently to combine.
  4. Add cinnamon sticks, star anise, and brandied cherries (if using) to the slow cooker.
  5. Cover and set the slow cooker to LOW. Cook for 3-4 hours until apples are tender but not mushy. Do not use HIGH heat.
  6. Taste the sangria after 3 hours. Adjust sweetness with more brown sugar or brightness with a splash of lemon juice if needed.
  7. Turn the slow cooker to WARM or OFF. Ladle into heat-safe mugs, ensuring each serving includes fruit slices and spices. Garnish with mint if desired.

Notes

Do not let the sangria boil, as this will cook off the alcohol too quickly and make the apples mushy. Use whole spices rather than ground to avoid a gritty texture. For a non-alcoholic version, substitute the wine with additional apple cider or ginger ale. If serving over a long period, check liquid levels and add water or cider if it reduces too much.
