These mummy hot dogs are a nostalgic Halloween treat featuring flaky puff pastry wrapped around juicy hot dogs with gooey cheese ribbons. Ready in under 30 minutes, they’re perfect for parties, movie nights, or any fun weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 hot dogs (preferably beef)
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed but still cold
  • 4 string cheese sticks, each cut in half lengthwise
  • 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water
  • Mustard (yellow or Dijon), for the eyes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet into a 12×12-inch square. Cut the pastry into 12 strips, each about 1 inch wide.
  3. Take your string cheese sticks and cut each one in half lengthwise to make 8 thin strips total.
  4. Take one hot dog and wrap a cheese strip around it in a spiral pattern, starting at one end and winding to the other. Repeat with all 8 hot dogs.
  5. Take one pastry strip and wrap it around the cheese-covered hot dog in a spiral pattern, starting at one end and working to the other. Leave a small gap at one end for the eyes. Repeat with all hot dogs.
  6. Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between each one.
  7. Using a pastry brush, gently brush each mummy with the beaten egg wash.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for 2-3 minutes on the baking sheet. Using a toothpick or the tip of a knife, dab two small dots of mustard on the exposed end of each hot dog for eyes.
  10. Serve immediately.

Notes

Keep the pastry cold for best results. Don’t over-wrap the hot dogs; leave small gaps for the cheese to peek through. Assemble up to 4 hours ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake. For air fryer: cook at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes.
