This honey garlic chicken is a quick and easy weeknight dinner that comes together in just 30 minutes. With a sticky, caramelized glaze and juicy chicken thighs, it’s a crowd-pleaser that even picky eaters love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs (680g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1/3 cup (110g) honey
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4–5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (such as avocado or canola oil)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels. Trim excess fat if needed. Season both sides lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and cornstarch until cornstarch is fully dissolved.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil. Let it heat until shimmering, about 2 minutes.
  4. Place chicken thighs in the hot skillet in a single layer (work in batches if needed). Cook undisturbed for 5-6 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Remove chicken to a plate and tent with foil.
  5. Reduce heat to medium. Stir the sauce mixture and pour into the hot skillet. Stir constantly, scraping up browned bits, until sauce thickens to a syrupy consistency, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Return chicken to the skillet, turning to coat in the glaze. Simmer for 1-2 minutes, spooning glaze over the tops.
  7. Transfer chicken to a serving platter and let rest for 2 minutes. Spoon remaining glaze over the top. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

Don’t skip drying the chicken for a good sear. Let chicken come to room temperature before cooking. Watch heat to prevent burning the honey sauce. Taste and adjust sweetness or saltiness as needed. Double the sauce for extra to serve over rice or vegetables.
