A crisp, not-too-sweet sangria made with apple cider, dry white wine, bourbon, and sparkling water, perfect for Halloween parties. It’s quick to assemble and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (960 ml) apple cider
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry white wine (Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) bourbon or brandy (optional)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) sparkling water or club soda
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 3–4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 large apple (Honeycrisp or Fuji), thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Prep the fruit: Wash and thinly slice the apple and orange. Leave the peel on the apple for color, remove seeds. Keep frozen cranberries frozen until needed.
  2. Build the base: In a large pitcher, combine the entire bottle of dry white wine and 4 cups of apple cider. Stir gently with a wooden spoon.
  3. Add the kick: Pour in 1/2 cup of bourbon or brandy. If using honey or maple syrup, add it now and stir until dissolved. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  4. Layer in the fruit and spice: Add apple slices, orange slices, cranberries, and cinnamon sticks. Push the cinnamon sticks down into the liquid.
  5. Chill: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, ideally 2 hours, to let flavors meld.
  6. Finish with fizz: Just before serving, gently pour in 2 cups of sparkling water. Stir once to incorporate.
  7. Serve: Fill glasses or mason jars with ice. Pour sangria over ice, ensuring each glass gets some fruit and a cinnamon stick.

Notes

For best flavor, chill the base for at least 2 hours. Do not add sparkling water until ready to serve to preserve fizz. Leftover sangria (without fruit) can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days; add fresh fruit and sparkling water when serving again.
