Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) strawberry or cherry-flavored gelatin (red layer)
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) lemon or pineapple-flavored gelatin (white layer)
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) blueberry or raspberry-flavored gelatin (blue layer)
  • 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) boiling water per gelatin package (to dissolve)
  • 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) cold water or vodka (or a mix, depending on how strong you want it)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy whipping cream, cold
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/4 cup (60 ml) sweetened condensed milk or heavy cream for white layer (to make it more opaque)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the red layer: In a medium bowl, dissolve 1 package of strawberry gelatin in 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) boiling water. Stir for about 2 minutes until fully dissolved. Add 3/4 cup (180 ml) cold water or vodka and mix well. Pour about 2 tablespoons (30 ml) into each shot cup to form the first layer. Refrigerate for 30-45 minutes until firm but not hard (should be slightly tacky to touch).
  2. Make the white layer: While the red layer chills, dissolve the lemon gelatin in boiling water the same way. Add cold water or vodka. To get a more opaque white layer, mix in 1/4 cup (60 ml) sweetened condensed milk or heavy cream if you like (optional). Carefully spoon or pour about 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of this mixture over the set red layer. Chill again for 30-45 minutes until set.
  3. Prepare the blue layer: Repeat the gelatin preparation with the blueberry package. Pour the blue layer gently over the white layer, about 2 tablespoons (30 ml) per cup. Chill for another 30-45 minutes until firm.
  4. Whip the cream: While the blue layer sets, beat the cold heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form (about 2-3 minutes with an electric mixer). Be careful not to overwhip or you’ll get butter!
  5. Top the shots: Using a small spoon or piping bag, add a dollop of whipped cream on top of each blue layer. Chill for another 10 minutes to set the topping slightly before serving.

Notes

Pour each new gelatin layer slowly over the back of a spoon onto the previous layer once it’s tacky but not fully hardened to keep layers distinct. Chill each layer for 30-45 minutes. For a kid-friendly version, replace vodka with cold water or juice. For dairy-free whipped topping, use chilled coconut cream but expect less fluffiness. Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days; add fresh whipped cream before serving for best presentation.
