A cozy fall banana bread combining pumpkin spice and ripe bananas with a luscious cream cheese swirl, perfect for a warm, nostalgic snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups ripe bananas, mashed (about 3 medium bananas)
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray. Optionally, line it with parchment paper for easier removal.
  2. Make the cream cheese swirl: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth using an electric mixer or whisk. Add ¼ cup granulated sugar, egg yolk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Beat until creamy and set aside.
  3. Prepare the banana pumpkin batter: In a large bowl, combine mashed bananas, pumpkin puree, melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix until just combined — do not overmix.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  5. Slowly fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a rubber spatula. Fold gently until just combined and no flour streaks remain.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing it out evenly.
  7. Drop spoonfuls (6 to 8 tablespoons) of the cream cheese mixture over the batter layer evenly.
  8. Top with the remaining banana pumpkin batter. Use a butter knife or skewer to gently swirl the cream cheese into the batter, creating visible pockets without overmixing.
  9. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs. Tent with foil halfway through baking if the top browns too quickly.
  10. Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to avoid dense bread. Ensure cream cheese is softened for smooth swirl. Let bread cool completely before slicing to maintain swirl integrity. Tent with foil if top browns too fast. Rest batter 5 minutes if too thick to swirl.
