This Quick Spooky Apple Cider Caramel Sangria is a quick and easy Halloween party drink that combines fruity red wine, apple cider, and caramel for a perfectly balanced, spooky twist. It comes together in under 10 minutes and is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) fruity red wine (Merlot, Zinfandel, or Malbec)
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/4 cup bourbon or spiced rum (optional)
  • 1 cup club soda or ginger ale
  • 2 apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup fresh cranberries
  • 2–3 cinnamon sticks
  • Star anise (optional, for garnish)
  • Ice cubes (made with apple cider, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the caramel drizzle: Pour about 1/4 cup of caramel sauce into a small bowl. Drizzle it around the inside of your empty pitcher in uneven, jagged lines to create a spooky effect. Set aside.
  2. Slice the apples: Core the apples and slice them into thin rounds, about 1/4-inch thick. Toss with a squeeze of lemon juice to prevent browning.
  3. Mix the liquid base: In a separate large measuring cup or bowl, combine the red wine, apple cider, and bourbon or spiced rum (if using). Stir gently.
  4. Assemble the pitcher: Pour the wine mixture into the caramel-drizzled pitcher. Add the apple slices, cranberries, and cinnamon sticks. Stir gently to distribute the fruit without disturbing the caramel streaks too much.
  5. Chill and infuse: Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, up to 2 hours, to let the flavors meld.
  6. Add the fizz and serve: Just before serving, gently stir in the club soda or ginger ale. Fill glasses with apple cider ice cubes (if using) and pour the sangria over the top. Ensure each glass gets some apple slices and cranberries.
  7. Final garnish: Add a star anise to each glass or float extra cranberries on top. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, replace wine with non-alcoholic red wine or pomegranate juice and skip the bourbon. For a gluten-free option, ensure caramel sauce and bourbon are certified gluten-free. The sangria can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, but add club soda and fresh apple slices just before serving for best results.
